I love this backyard family photoshoot with the Ballert-Dalrymple Family!
Because it was at their home, it was much more relaxed. From touring their house and backyard and Nolan’s stories in between, this family has so much imagination and creativity to run wild. Join me on this backyard family photoshoot adventure!
After a grand tour of their new home, we wandered outside. The backyard was full of so many opportunities for stories and adventure! Nolan had a climbing dome that reminded me of how one might climb areas of a ship. Could it be that Nolan might be the Captain of a pirate ship?!
In this backyard photography session, I captured a photo of Captain Nolan using his spyglass at the top of the dome, like the lookout amongst the sails of his very own pirate ship!
Backyard Family Photoshoots Have Spider Coves & Booby Traps!
Soon we were on a treasure hunt, with Captain Nolan leading me through the trees and bushes to his secret hiding place. Once there, he explained how there were many spiders in these bushes.
Wait. Spiders?!
I didn’t want to crawl through there for a face full of spiderwebs! And while I, thankfully, didn’t crawl into the spider den, I suspect that is where Captain Nolan must have been hiding his pirate treasure!
Just outside Spider Cove, I got a feel for how the treasure was well fortified, as there was a massive boobytrap! Yes, I said boobytrap! Captain Nolan must have some valuable treasure to be setting boobytraps! There’s no shortage of adventure in this backyard photography session. Here he’s showing me his latest boobytrap in progress.
Out to Sea and a Search for Land
After our adventure on land, we took a trip on their blanket for a few family photos. With nothing but an apple in their picnic basket, Captain Nolan kept a lookout for clues of land nearby.
While on our blanket raft, the trees moved like waves in the background, and the glowing morning sun gave us a beautiful backdrop for a more natural family lifestyle session. We photographed some wonderful candid family photos, and the waving trees brought us to the end of our adventure.
Check out this Patagonia picnic blanket. We used one side in this family shoot and another in Emily’s session.
After all our adventure for the day, Captain Nolan was on the lookout for his home shore. Rest assured that The Ballert-Dalrymple family made it safely to shore and were tucked cozily into their beds that night!
